The Museum of Wimbledon is a local history museum located at 22 Ridgway, Wimbledon, in the London Borough of Merton, UK. The museum opened in 1916 and is operated by volunteers. Evelina Druce was born in Clapham, South London in 1862. Her husband, George, and daughter Madeline were active in women’s political organizations, and she was an active member of the North Wimbledon branch of the London Society for Women’s Suffrage. She also joined the Woman’s Local Government Association of Wimbledon and the Women’s Citizens’ Association of the Parliamentary Borough of Wandsworth.
Other notable individuals in Thornton Heath include Evelina Druce and her son George Claridge Druce. Their son, Edward, was a notable photographer and a painter. Several of his paintings have been donated to the Museum. The Druces lived at Ravenscarr, 22 The Downs, where they donated their family’s collection of art. In addition to her paintings, her family donated many items to the museum, including a war ration card for the local population.
In the 1911 census, Minna Twentyman lived with her younger sister Evelyn. Evelyn was an assistant to the hospital. In 1929, her husband was a director of the Welsh Colliery Board. Percy died three years later. In 1909, they had a son, Percy, who became a major photographer and donated his paintings to the museum. Their collection includes a number of items.
Other important historical figures include Mr. and Mrs. Bather, a prominent photographer, and his wife, Hilda. Her husband, George Claridge Druce, a prominent photographer, donated several paintings to the Museum. The Druce family has several items in the Museum’s Collections. For example, her husband and sister-in-law lived at Ravenscarr, 22 The Downs.
